Have you talked to your mother?
Is she still living?
Do you live by each other?
Was she always giving?
Did she sacrifice for you?
Did she stay at home to care for you?
Did she wipe your tears?
Understand your fears?
Did she lead you to the Lord?
Did she buy whatever she could afford?
Did she teach honor and love?
Did she tell you help comes from above?
Was she there for you through thick and thin?
Did she teach you to be the best you could be?
Did she have to often grab your chin?
Did she spend a lot of time on bended knee?
Did she give up things she wanted,
To give you all you needed, unselfishly?
Did she appear to go through life undaunted?
Or did you see her, alone, crying quietly?
Were there always hugs and smiles?
And laughter more than tears?
Does she reach out now across the miles?
And still today try to calm your fears?
Do you consider her a friend?
Someone who's honest and never cruel?
Then make no mistake, my friend,
She is a gift and a very rare jewel.
She is valuable and irreplacable,
A mother so many never had at all.
So shower her with love while you are able,
and remember all the good you can recall.
And never doubt the gift she gave to you,
Also precious, rare and good,
A special woman to be praised too,
Because you fully understood,
You were passed the gift of Motherhood.
